Lisa Bettany

For this post I decided to look at the rules that we’ve discussed in class and find them in other pictures. For this blog I will be looking at the incredible photos of Lisa Bettany.
Though not a crystal-clear reflection, the haze water draws more attention to the in-focus rocks and sky. The black trees and darker rocks draw more attention to the sky and lighting on the water. The rocks add a difference over the otherwise conformity of the water. The jaggedness of the trees also brings attention to them, but mostly directs to the clouds above. Most of all the orange in the sky are “reflected” in the water by the rocks drawing attention both up and down.
For this photo, it’s mostly about difference over conformity. The ice manages to somewhat magnify what is frozen beneath. It also has a mix of lighting, which combined with the magnified beneath, brings an almost warmth to the photo.
For this reflection photo, the rule of thirds is ignored in favor of the mirrored image. However, red is more attractive, sharpness draws more attention than blur, light over darkness, and a few diagonal trees mixed in with the horizontal.
